We went to see Natalie Merchant Monday night. Very good concert. Much better than the last time we saw her. The setlist was much better and she played longer. Excellent show. She just cracks me up. She was very interactive with the crowd Monday, although it took her awhile to start. Once she started, she was hilarious. She was talking to this little girl in the front row, asking her if “you’re mother is embarrassing you.” Very cute.

The new songs were great in concert, particularly This House Is On Fire, Saint Judas and Build Yourself A Levee. I was disappointed she didn’t play Motherland, but that’s the only song I missed. Carnival was incredible, as usual, due to the kick-ass guitar playing of Gabe Gordon. That guy is awesome. Great harmony vocals, too.

All in all, a wonderful show.
