Prophets in the graveyard….

in the war over land where the world began
prophecy says it’s where the world will end
but there’s a tremor growing in our own backyard
fear in our heads
fear in our hearts
prophets in the graveyard

Unfortunately this seems to be true. Ours is a nation in fear. Not only do we have real things to fear, such as hurricane’s and our leaders total inability to deal with them effectively, but we also have a lot of people fearing ghosts….the ghosts our incompetent leaders have created. Anyway, I don’t really want to get into that…..

Jonas & Ezekiel.mp3

The reason I posted that bit of a lyric is that it’s from an Indigo Girls song titled Jonas & Ezekiel. IGs are coming to Omaha in two weeks and I’m really looking forward to seeing them. I’ve seen them…lemme think…thirteen times! And they’ve never failed to please. They can sing their asses off, write great songs, always have a killer band with them, and they have a great message. And then there’s those beautiful harmonies.

Did they tell you it was set in stone
That you’d end up alone
Use your years to psyche you out
You’re too old to care
You’re too young to count

A song Amy wrote about activism.

Feed the fire
Fan the flame
I know you kids can stand the rain
I know the kids are still upsetters
‘Cause rock is cool but the struggle is better
Go go go

And from the song Faye Tucker, written by Amy about the woman George Bush executed as governor of Texas:

What did you learn Faye Tucker
What will take from this world
Well mercy could prove us
But nothing would move us
To rise above just being cruel
To rise above just being cruel

And now someone’s on the telephone, desperate in his pain
Someone’s on the bathroom floor doing her cocaine
Someone’s got his finger on the button in some room
No one can convince me we aren’t gluttons for our doom
But I tried to make this place my place
I asked for Providence to smile upon me with his sweet face
But I’ll tell you
My place is of the sun and this place is of the dark
I do not feel the romance I do not catch the spark
My place is of the sun and this place is of the dark
By grace, my sight grows stronger and I will not
be a pawn for the Prince of Darkness any longer

If you haven’t heard much of the IGs, you need to. They are most excellent. They range from folk to pop to hard rock. Emily is very melodic. Amy is more rockin’ and much more rhythmic in her singing. Incredible artists.
